Edvard Munch was born in 1863 in a rustic farmhouse in the village of Adalsbruk, located in Loten, Norway. His father, Christian Munch, was a practicing physician, married to Laura Catherine Bjolstad. The family, including sisters Johanne Sophie, Laura Catherine Inger Marie, and brother Peter, relocated to Oslo in 1864, following Christian's appointment as medical officer at Akershus Fortress, a military area which at the time was in use as a prison.

The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Italian artist Michelangelo, which forms part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling, painted c. 1508–1512. It illustrates the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which Godgives life to Adam, the first man. The fresco is part of a complex iconographic scheme and is chronologically the fourth in the series of panels depicting episodes from Genesis.

Experimentation
The main thing that I experimented with was the color that I was using in my piece and the hand position. Throughout this process I was mixing colors to get the correct tones and colors for the hand/arm and background. After I was able to obtain the colors I wanted I then transferred the hand onto the canvas and the baseball as well and I also had to mess with the hand gesture and make sure that I transferred it onto the canvas correctly. This started with me taking the right picture of my hand and being able to transfer it accurately. |
In this first picture, I was able to transfer the image onto the canvas by projecting one of my planning sketches onto the canvas. I liked this design and placement of the objects on the canvas and decided to go with it. I added a bunch of pieces of the canvas flying around to make it look like the hand broke through the canvas> I also drew the hole and the hand that was coming through the canvas.
|
I then created a color that best looked like my skin tone and added that onto the arm. I made a lighter skin color and painted the nails that color to make them look different and not merged together. I made the color by mixing blue, red, yellow and white and it turned out the way I wanted it to. I made the hand like this based on Michelangelo's piece because I liked how their hands were reaching out towards each other and thats the idea I wanted for my piece.
|
I then started to work on the pieces that were being flown from the canvas breaking. I made them a lighter blue then what the background would be again to make then noticeable and stand out. It also goes with the light because the light would be shining on the pieces and make them a lighter color anyway.
|
I then finished the background by adding black and more blue to make it look more like Edvard's piece. I also added the stripes to the baseball to finish off that part. I like how my piece ended up looking. I really like the idea of having the light coming through the depressing background and having me catch the baseball showing my love for sports.
