The theme of my work was centered around self identity and what makes me who I am. I think the idea of figuring out who I am and implying that idea into my work really brought out the best in my work. My goal over the creation of all my works was to get better in certain areas and learn tips or tricks that I can use in other pieces to make them the best that they can be. The vision of presenting these works is to show the work that I have been able to create and express myself over the past couple of years. I wanted to show the different materials I was able to use and the many different mediums that I was able to experiment with. Being able to utilize materials like photoshop and printmaking really allowed me to bring out the emotion and message behind my decisions and themes. My hope is that I can use the skills that I was able to gain and improve on in future pieces of work that I create or even imply it to other areas of life. The mediums that I tended to focus on the most were the 2-D and Lens Based mediums. Throughout the creation of all my works, I tended to focus on these two mediums more because I felt that it allowed me to add the most detail in my work to support my theme of a specific piece. For example, in my drypoint printmaking piece, Fading Away, I was able to add detail to the drawing of me by using cross hatching. Being able to incorporate the crosshatching in the piece for detail and to use that technique for ashes to make it look like I am fading away, Is something that I felt that I wouldn't have been able to do in a 3-D piece. With the digital pieces however, they were the medium that I tended to focus on the most. I feel like in creating my digital work, I felt like I was able to do anything and it really allowed me to be creative and express what I want to express. Being able to mess with the brightness, contrast, color, and many of the other tools allowed me to add significant detail to my pieces and help convey my theme throughout the piece. The research that went into the pieces before the creation was very key when deciding what medium to choose to convey the message I wanted the piece to. If I felt like that I needed to mess with brightness and contrast of color, I tended to focus more on digital work with photoshop. If one of my pieces needed very specific detail, I tended to focus more on 2-D work because I felt like I could better include the minor and specific details drawing and painting that I couldn't get in photoshop. The space that I was allowed to hang my work consisted of two white walls and a podium for my 3-D piece. The process of hanging my work consisted of printing out my digital works, and organizing my other 2-D work because my 3-D piece would be resting on the podium. I printed out my exhibition text and mounted it on the mounting board to make the gallery feel complete. I organized the pieces by medium and put all of the mediums that were similar next together. One of the walls consisted of my digital work because I had made a lot of digital work while the other wall was used to hang my 2-D work. After I had organized them by size. I didn't want a piece that was small to be next to a piece that was too big because I felt that it messed with proportion. Then I hung my work at eye level to me so all of the pieces were on the same level and it would make the viewer have a hard time seeing the different works that I had created. After I hung up my pieces where I felt they best belonged, I started to mess with the lighting on my pieces. I used the lighting to better highlight some of my better pieces and make them better seen within the gallery.
